About me
"The best time to plant a tree is yesterday... the second best time is today."
This simple yet profound Chinese proverb summarizes the "Big Idea" for 7th Grade World History - "Be Kind." Learning from the past, including both the mistakes and achievements of previous generations, is the greatest motivation for studying history. I believe that character education proceeds side by side with academic learning, and nowhere is this more true than in the Social Studies / History classroom. I am passionate about learning from history and its lessons, and I look forward to passing on those lessons to the future: our kids!
My name is Perry Pennington. I grew up in Germantown, and attended Dogwood Elementary and Houston High School, graduating in 1994. I studied sociology and anthropology at the University of Memphis, graduating in 1998. Later, I went on to earn an M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary and spent twelve years working with a non-profit organization in India. After returning to the United States in 2012, I completed a Master of Education from Union University and a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. In addition to history, I am interested in languages, and have studied Latin, Spanish, Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, and Gojri. I have four children and attend St. George's Episcopal Church.
